Notes by the taper
A great night of music and a wonderful recorded document! Santana turned 65 on July 20, yet he played a high-energy concert that lasted almost 2 hours and 45 minutes. Wow!!! There was no opening act - just pure Santana.

I had a seat that was just a few feet from being directly in line with the right stack of speakers. This, combined with quiet folks around me, makes for a great and enjoyable recording. The Omnis really do a nice job of representing all of the diverse sounds heard over the course of the evening. I personally am glad that Santana played many of his older and/or jam-oriented (and less pop) songs. He just has so many good ones to choose from. So after you download this show, close your eyes and prepare to go on a musical journey that will make you smile.

As always, this recording is to be traded freely and NEVER SOLD. Enjoy the show and, if you attended, relive the music! Be sure to see Santana if you can and buy his music.

Notes by the taper
I included a couple minutes of the audience because a) that's when they began playing the background music that signaled the beginning of the show and b) I wanted to let people meet the babe who was standing next to me showing off her big wedding ring, and whose screaming is evident off to the side through much of the show (not loud enough to ruin the experience). I'm always supriswed at how well some of these shows turn out considering the fact I'm moving all over the place, dancing wildly to the music. My first order of business is total enjoyment of the show, while the recording is always secondary. I like to believe that DLR responded to my call to Eddie in the long opening of Everybody Wants Some!

Notes:
This gig was one to remember, without a doubt. None of my friends like this guy. In fact, one even said that he was not interested in seeing a guy wank over his guitar. He was right. It was the usual Yngwie masturbating all over his guitar but you know what? It's the one time I can handle watching a guy masturbate! I expected it. I bought the ticket anyway, knowing this was going to be one wankfest I would actually enjoy and I definitely enjoyed it.

Sure Yngwie's soloing is self-indulgent and at times a bit too much, lacking musical depth to some but I seem to absorb its musical energy and feed it back out on my drum kit. I'm not sure what it is exactly. Perhaps it's my penchant for classical music in a rock setting and I am just a drummer at the end of the day!

Yngwie and his bandmates really set the stage on fire that night and from the mighty vocals of Doogie to the thundering metronomic precision of Jens, there was nothing I could possibly fault the band for. It was good solid neo-classical rock at its finest. I heard where Symphony X's Micahel Romeo got his influences from (another favourite band of mine) and perhaps that made me enjoy it all the more.

A long and gruelling tour didn't stop these guys from giving it their all. I'm sure you'll hear that for yourself.

On to the technical stuff, I'm not terribly impressed with this one given my location. My ticket purchasing skills back then left a lot to be desired. Furthermore, I'm not even sure if I ever did release this one but I did recently listen back to the master CD I engineered and I must admit, I was appalled with myself at the result. So, I was inspired to right the wrong by remastering this recording. Good thing I always keep the originals otherwise this never would have been salvageable!

So, having wound up at the far right, the best I could hope for was a decent mono mix from the PA. Thankfully, the sound guy did a mono mix. Unfortunately, it was far from a good mix. The main hi-hats are just way too bright and cutting, the midrange was a bit excessive from the guitars (perhaps at Yngwie's request) but lacking top-end, the vocals were reasonable though sometimes getting lost in the mix, the bass guitar lacked definition and Derek's keyboards were sometimes a little too bright depending on the patch used.

It was painful but I had to come to a compromise with the sound in order to get a better overall result. This one gets a C. Listen to the sample and be your own judge is all I can really say.

Taped in stalls centre of hall 20 feet from stage,15 feet in front of soundboard. A whistler mid way through the second half, but nothing too drastic. many thanks to formengr for the rig!! This is the second time I used it :-) the only change is a new battery box. Thanks a lot to BLG for processing the files - I was on the road and in no shape to work with them at all. Overall, the crowd around us wasn't bad except for a progressively deteriorating (as the number of beers was growing…) female character behind us who was giggling in the least expected moments… I am thrilled that the rain stopped - given how bad it poured it the morning… It felt weird to see the Wall a year and a half later from a venue literally right across from where it happened 3x in 2010. The question is - why do I keep going to Philly to see music instead of back home in NYC?! Anyways - I hope you like my 2nd tape ever ;-)

Notes by the uplaoder
I've always thought that supertramp were more brilliant and elaborate than many allegedly progressive groups, hence the labelling under "progressive rock" category, as this is by all accounts a Supertramp greatest hits. A great selection of great songs, really, from the ballads to the epics. And his voice it's still the same. WARNING: in italian radio customes the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot.. His/Her purpose is to introduce songs with bits of bio and translate what the artists say, or to describe to radio listeners what's happening on stage. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording ONLY FOR COMPLETISTS. But the songs, the actual music, are (usually) not spoken over in the middle of them. It has to be noted that italian djs are on the whole adviced to talk that much by the same record companies to prevent bootlegging.

Notes by the taper:
Nice! Happy to have the mighty Maiden Back playing some tunes I'm familiar with. Last time in 2010 they were great, but would have enjoyed some more classics! This time they made up for it!!!! Great setlist!! Bruce States this was the first Canadian date for this tour. Stood back this year to avoid fellow concert goer chatter. Was good till someone lit a port o potti on fire. the smoke of that was pretty rough. Skunk weed is much better.

From the Ottawa Citizen
"...Which left the intermission question: Would Iron Maiden be worthy?

Well, even Dickinson, Harris and co. might concede it was a tough act to follow (Alice Cooper) but they brought their own toys to compete and had more time to spread their musical wings across the years.

The Maiden show is a high octane three-guitar blast led by Bruce Dickinson’s unrelenting movement and profane cajoling of members the audience to do whatever he feels they should be doing at any given moment. It’s called working the crowd and he’s very good at it.

After the grand opening with Moonchild and Can I Play With Madness, some sound imbalance that was burying Dickinson’s vocals were dealt with and the concert flowed through one familiar song after another. Maiden work hard and after more than three decades, long ago figured out how to please the crowd – by attending to those geezer fundamentals."

Jonathan Douglas "Jon" Lord D.M. (9 June 1941 – 16 July 2012) was an English composer, pianist and Hammond organ player. Known for his pioneering work in fusing rock and classical or baroque forms, especially with Deep Purple. Besides Whitesnake, Paice, Ashton & Lord, The Artwoods and Flower Pot Men. In 1968, Lord founded Deep Purple, where he was virtually the leader of the band until 1970. In addition, Lord wrote the organ riff on "Child in Time". He and drummer Ian Paice were the only constant band members during the band's existence from 1968 to 1976 and from when they reformed in 1984 until Lord's retirement from Deep Purple in 2002. On 11 November 2010, Lord was made an Honorary Fellow of Stevenson College, Edinburgh. On 15 July 2011, he was granted an honorary Doctor of Music degree by his home town's University of Leicester. Lord died on 16 July 2012 after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was surrounded by his family at the London Clinic.~ wikipedi

NOTES:
Really nice hometown show, its rare when it takes me 10 minutes to get home from a gig. Nice for a change. They totally rocked. I was suprised a bit with the rocked out nature of the show but it was great. They did some classic acoustic stuff too. The couple newer tracks are incredibly good. I mean, REALLY GOOD. Tracks 6, 7 and 8 of disc 1 specifically. They show their age on a few of the tracks but mostly, they nailed the vocals. Muscially, incredibly good gig.

Notes by the taper
First things first - this recording is far from perfect.

I was taping outdoors in a venue normally meant for equestrian events and rugby - Come On Leinster!

I used my omni mics but couldn't find my windscreens and foolishy thought my mounting method would cut down on wind noise - how wrong I was. There is wind noise present in the recording especially in the first part. There is also alot of phasing at times due to the wind.

The fact that the omni mics pick up everything didn't help - expect to hear a lot of unwanted conversations.

The sound is pretty dodgy at the start of the show but it does improve and in the end it's not too bad.

Now onto the show - an amazing performance from Bruce & co. Much had been said of the events in London in the lead up to the night of the show and Bruce answered it.

The big switch, opening by starting Twist & shout midway thru and going straight into I Fought the Law was obviously his way of dealing with the situation.

From there on in Bruce gave his all and we loved it. It was my son's first Bruce show and he got a baptism of fire. Nearly 3.5 hours of a show and he was dancing and singing to the end.

Bruce mentions curfews more than once and kept the joke going with the guy dressed as the English Bobby and his friend in the suit coming on stage to stop the show, he even ripped up a fake contract at one stage.

I could go on & on about the rest of the stuff that happened but I won't - I am sure you can read about it all elsewhere.

For the old fashioned amongst use who still burn to cd this one will need 3 discs - splits after Darkness & We Are Alive.

Notes:
Similar to Night 1 in terms of sound quality - was slightly windier so the phasing and wind noise is a bit more noticeable but at least they had the sound from the rear stack right from the start of the gig.

I missed the first 2 seconds of this hard land - I couldn't see any activity on the stage from my position so I didn't notice Bruce had come on. ;-)

Usual bunch of chatty cathys around me - one bunch of ladies in particular were very chatty all night. Funnier still was their disgusted reaction everytime the crowd shouted "Bruuuuuucce" - they were getting very upset as they thought everyone was booing.

The show itself was another fine performance from Bruce and the band. This was gig number 23 for me this year and it ranks up there as one of my favourites.

Some nice changes in the setlist - I've always been a fan of Adam Raised A Cainand Atlantic city. No matter how many times I hear Nils wailing on Because the Night it never gets old for me - that man is a master of guitar.
