Comments:
This recording captures Bruce relatively early in the 2009 tour, the first of two nights at the little-used "dump that jumps" Sports Arena. Bruce has frequently expressed his disdain for the cavernous Staples Center, and chose to return to the crumbling Sports Arena for the L.A. stop of the tour. Though he was fighting a cold which affected his voice somewhat (more noticeably the second night), he turned in a great performance with a variety of rarely-played tracks and a guest appearance by Tom Morello. I think Bruce collectors have kind of forgotten this tour already, but over time I suspect we will appreciate it as a high point in his live-performing career -- in part because the shows were, on the whole, great, and it was the final run for Clarence Clemons and the (pre-expanded) E Street Band lineup.

Sound quality is phenomenal. As one might expect from having heard other seneca
stj recordings, a lot of work went into getting the mix just right; this one could easily be mistaken for a mainstream FM broadcast if not a commercial release. The only giveaway is that the keyboards are a little more prominent than you would find in a commercial live release by Bruce, but otherwise the sound is simply stunning.
