This recording is nothing short of EXCELLENT! There are nuances in the music that you cannot hear in lesser-quality recordings. Synthesizer patches and guitar effects are awesomely clear. You can even appreciate the flanging effect on the voices singing the "counter-lyrics" in "And You And I" (you know, "Coins and crosses..."). This kind of quality is rare in a 30-year-old tape.

I received this recording in a trade in 2002. It may not be the same version that Highland released, and which Lestat used for his recent remaster. From his description of the audio quality of the Highland recording, this is apparently much better!

Relayerman provided a lot of detail about what he did to enhance the recording of the first night in Paris. Since I did some of the audio work on this recording in 2002, I don't have the same detailed records of everything that was done. The original recording ran slow, so the pitch was flat. I corrected the pitch and balanced the stereo channels, each of which had somewhat different frequency response. Before I was all done, I applied Sonic Foundry (now Sony) Acoustic Mirror, which gives the recording a wider stereo field.

There is a patch in the last 90 seconds of Awaken which I think was in the original recording I received in trade. It's not bad, and it's probably from another average quality recording of the same performance. Relayerman says he has two versions of this show, but I have not confirmed with him whether both have this patch. I worked with the pitch and EQ of the patch to help it blend with the rest of the recording.

Overall, this is one of the most satisfying remastering projects I've undertaken, mostly thanks to the quality of the original recording. If I had deliberately saved the best for last, I still would have chosen this recording and this show.

Comments:
Is a very good recording, but has some drop and interferences and contain some radio slogan in the whole concert, a lot of comments and talks by the radio DJs Juan Di Natale and Mario Pergolini(very fastiidious and irritating)
Just fade in / out was done in the recording for the tape change and edition for commercial pauses.
in Nyd,  Pride..., I still haven't found...., Where the streets... and Discotheque there are some interferences and distortions for bad radio signal
in I still haven't.... missing the introduction for Bono's speech
Last 3 minutes for Mothers was taped with some difficulties due a bad tape change and have a low level recording.

notes
This is without doubt possibly the finest recording of the finest concert that Pink Floyd played in 1971, at least in the top 5. The ambience is perfect ("pin drop silence" during performance) and gives the listener as accurate a live experience as was possible given the technology of the day. It rightfully deserves the Harvested trademark of quality.
features: the original "Outer Space" lyrics of TROTSON ("Echoes"), an INSANE version of ASOS, possibly the last performance of "Astronomy Domine" until the '94 resurrection, and "Blues"...what a show !!!

Comments:
A long, strange trip for this gem. It ended up in our intrepid hero's hands as the surprise diamond in a trade.

In his own words--

"The person who I received this show from was not able to provide me with any useful information. He actually told me it was from a radio show in 1967 with the songs Astronomy Domine and Green is the Colour among others. There was no artwork, just multi-colored stick on labels with the name Pink Floyd, the letters CWRU, and 1967 on them. When I inquired about the source he just said that he was glad I liked it. Further inquiries were given answers unrelated to the question or not answered at all... Either he was just reluctant to reveal anything or was just unaware of what it was he had."

So for once we have no lineage information for you. However what we do have is an amazing and complete document of the Floyd in their prime giving us an utterly stunning performance. Of special note is the "jam sessions" mid-song that seems to take place during each track. FOS gets a bit of a Beatlee-sque/Abbey Road type of treatment, Set The Controls is a free for all about half way through, and is that a bow solo ala Jimmy Page during the break during One Of These Days? Careful With That Axe is full of angst and just... well, rocks! Echoes is perfect as well! Finally, we get a rare treat with Blues included for good measure.

As a result of our cleanup efforts there's great definition of the instruments and you can hear some things that I know I've never heard before in these live recordings. These surprises make this one a keeper and a welcome addition to the collection.

The last approximately 30 seconds of "24 hours at a time" was the only missing music in the FM master recording and were spliced in from the post from Gaston on Dec. 30, 2009 at torrent #283198. (from FM of unknown lineage) The rest of this is with this

09: hillbilly band 3:40
10: ramblin' 6:55
11: this ol' cowboy 5:58
12: desert skies 6:54
13: 24 hours at a time 12:30 (spliced at end from second source, master tape cut)
14: auld lang syne (New Year's in New Orleans) >
I'll be loving you 10:27
16: searchin' for a rainbow 6:33
17: will the circle be unbroken (with radio talkover idiot) 9:18

Total runtime: 105:38

There are a few disc break options but this one was the most sequentially convenient one (a commercial break between tracks 7 and 8 was edited out. There were a couple of those in this broadcast and track 8 begins with the radio DJ saying and once again the Marshall Tucker Band...) Thanks to the one spliced track this is the complete show. All the songs are complete and the only reel change started just before a song.

Comments:
It's not often that an uncirculated 40-year-old audience recording appears on Dime by the most-bootlegged band in history, particularly when the source was a biographer of the band. In August 2010, Luis Rey (author of a couple of bootographies of the band) provided his recording from the master tape of Led Zeppelin's Detroit appearance while promoting their second album in 1970. The original was posted by "lilioriverio" in a single-track file which was quickly banned, but Dime user "per_jonson" quickly picked up the ball, edited the recording into individual files and made an attempt to clean up the original recording, and reposted both the original file and his edit to Dime. The final result (while certainly better than the original) won't win any awards in terms of sound quality, but completists will certainly want to grab this one anyway. This only represents the first 45 minutes of the show (plus a 14-minute segment of the taper providing commentary), but still it's worth having if you grab everything in existence by the band. I thought this would be a good contribution to the Dime free-leech period.

I'm really impressed by the quality and sound of this recording. The taper obviously knew what they were doing and did it very, very well. This is an excellent recording of a 1977/78 Kansas concert. The show began New Year's Eve and ended after midnight on New Year's Day. The band does the countdown to the new year right before "Carry on Wayward Son". This recording sounds a lot like a soundboard throughout most of the show due to the clarity and lack of crowd noise.

Comments:
Sometime in the early days of Dime, I converted my DAT recording (acquired in trade, so I don't know the lineage) of Jimmy Page & Robert Plant's Boston show from the "Walking Into Clarksdale" tour. Very little is known in terms of the origins of this recording -- rumors were that this is an in-house Assistive Listening Device (ALD) broadcast that was used at Great Woods around this time, and this is borne out by the fact that there are several other "soundboards" of similar fidelity floating around from this period by other bands. Apparently it made the rounds online and one industrious downloader ("caddy72") discovered that the sound quality could be dramatically improved by reversing the polarity of one of the channels. I personally don't have a clue what this means in technical terms, but apparently it's a common phenomenon with many ALD recordings that the polarity is somehow reversed in the process of broadcast.

Comments:
This recording has circulated in the snail-mail trading pool since the late 1980s, but this posting (originally shared by "jacksontomthumb" in March 2009) was the first one I remember seeing of known lineage. This show features EC during his brief Australian tour in spring 1975; the 1974-75 dates were notably erratic due to Clapton's "substance issues," and this one appears to be no exception. I always find these shows worthwhile because they feature Clapton at both his highest and lowest -- often within the same song. His guitar work was often spectacular on these dates, but frequently the performances got sloppy and meandering; I don't remember enough from this tour to be able to comment on how this one compares to the rest of the tour. If you're a Clapton fan, they're all worth grabbing because they are always fascinating.

The recording quality is pretty good -- obviously the master is a well-worn analog and prone to limitations in fidelity, but it's quite listenable and has a minimum of hiss or dropouts. The mix is decent, although it would probably benefit from some 21st century EQ work to improve the overall sound. If you're a Clapton collector and don't have this, you will probably find this well worth picking up.

“Limited unofficial edition of demos recorded at Schloß Nörvenich between 1968 and 69, following the release of Delay 1968. In fact, different versions of half of the songs have been previously released, these songs are just different takes, unaltered recordings for studio releases and a few bonus unreleased songs (see: Greyhound Greyhounds and Melting Away).

No label or further information is contained within the art or on the album itself; whatever cutout carving was etched in was gutted from the vinyl. Apparently released 2006, number of copies pressed unknown.”

Comments:
This captures the Stones' stop in Lexington, Kentucky near the end of their "Tattoo You" tour; most of these shows were relatively stagnant in terms of setlist, but the performances were generally high-energy though (in my opinion) kind of sloppy. I'm not a fan of Mick's vocals on this tour, but the setlists were great. This tour certainly helped to establish their reputation as one of the best live acts around, and one of the top acts of their generation.

Sound quality is very good, with an overall good mix and prominent vocals. Hopefully this will fill a gap for some collectors.
