Sound quality is phenomenal, though not quite as "polished" as the first night. As one might expect from having heard other senecaststj recordings, a lot of work went into the mix. Though it's apparent that it's not as precisely mixed as a commercial release, the sound is simply stunning.

Some Words From The BBC:
As part of the Goodbye TV Centre celebrations, guitarist, singer and songwriter Richard Thompson plays a one-off concert filmed in TC8. Thompson has been performing in BBC TV studios since 1969, starting on Top of the Pops with Fairport Convention and then making frequent appearances on the Old Grey Whistle Test, The Late Show and Later with Jools Holland as a solo artist and bandleader. Filmed before the opening night of the tour celebrating the Top 20 placing of his album Electric, Thompson leads his current power trio through songs from that album, including Salford Sunday and Stony Ground, alongside classics from his songbook like I Want to See the Bright Lights and Tear Stained Letter. Thompson is joined on a couple of acoustic songs by former Fairport bandmate and master fiddler Dave Swarbrick, frequent collaborator Pete Zorn adds sax to Al Bowlly's In Heaven and his daughter Kami Thompson harmonises on Waltzing for Dreamers. Filmed before a small studio audience in the bare style of some of the previous BBC music shows on which Thompson has appeared, this concert celebrates Thompson and a tradition of popular music performance from TV Centre.

The Transitional Period-1968 era on Tarantura collects documents in an attractive box all of the most important tapes from the year when Pink Floyd underwent tremendous amount of change. When the year began the band were actually a five piece, having recruited David Gilmour to play guitar to aid an ailing Syd Barrett. They played five or six gigs together before Waters and the others decided it would be best to carry on as a four piece without Syd and stopped picking him up for gigs. They were dropped by their management Blackhill Agency, who did continue to represent Barrett and even tried to persuade Wright to leave Pink Floyd and join Barrett. The band searched for a creative statement that would differentiate themselves from the first album and establish them as an important artistic power. The very first project they did as a four piece is the soundtrack for the movie The Committee. This film is beautifully shot in black and white and starts Paul Jones of Manfred Mann. The subject matter of the movie is a philosophic meditation upon one’s conformity with the group and the expectations of living according to one’s culture. It was supposed to be released to the theaters in May, 1968 but for reasons unknown was pulled and, except for rare showings, was not given general release until it was issued on commercial DVD in September, 2005 causing much celebration. The soundtrack itself has never been released and the only way to hear the music is to listen to the entire film which is what Tarantura does. It will be jarring for most, in listening to the first disc, to hear the long dialogue sections between the music. It sounds like Tarantura ripped the entire soundtrack from the DVD so it is in very good mono.

Most of the music Pink Floyd composed is as much soundtrack movie is, composed of short snippets of music meant to underscore the narrative onscreen. The first instrumental is a short, backwards discordant theme before the first dialogue, between the unnamed protagonist and the driver. “Instrumental #2” is a minute long, bouncy pop number. The “instrumental #3” is a psychedelic, organ driven number which underscores the random discussions of the people at the committee retreat. “Instrumental #4” is two minutes long and is played under the discussion between the protagonist and the committee chairman where the former discusses why he cut off and reattached the driver’s head. The music can be considered “experimental” with various noises on the guitar which resemble parts of “A Saucerful Of Secrets.” “Instrumental #5” is a tense organ theme lasting about ninety seconds. “Instrumental #6” is a two minute long David Gilmour exercise, picking on creepy sounding notes over a Roger Waters staccato rhythm. “Instrumental #7” is a thirty second long, slow Hammond organ clip. “Instrumental #8,” given the title “Keep Smiling People,” is two and a half minutes long and is the most recognizable piece of music on the soundtrack since it is the earliest incarnation of “Careful With That Axe, Eugene.” It already features Wright’s “Egyptian” organ and Waters’ familiar bass theme. It would be performed on stage as “Keep Smiling People” and recorded on the BBC as “The Murderotic Woman” before being released on the B-side to “Point Me To The Sky” and on the LP Relics. The most famous form however will be released the following year, the live version on Ummagumma. “Instrumental #9” is an upbeat piece driven by Gilmour on guitar. The soundtrack ends with backwards effects and Paul Jones singing dumb song called “The Committee” which summarized what we’ve learned in the movie (“ Laws by committee / wars by committee / is the most effective way.”)

The second disc contains six radio and television appearances between February and December, 1968 revealing the amount of promotion they were doing during this time. The first two tracks on this disc, “Astronomy Domine” and “Flaming,” come from the “Bouton Rouge” television broadcast. This is a mono recording straight from the television soundtrack, recorded on February 20 and broadcast on February 24. This was unearthed several years ago and is an important find. A third track, “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” also exists but Tarantura didn’t include it in this collection. The second part of this disc contains the professionally recorded First European International Pop Festival in Rome on May 6. This is excellent stereo soundboard quality and this version is sourced from a VPRO radio broadcast in Holland except for “Interstellar Overdrive,” which comes from a broadcast of the set from ARD TV in West Germany. Most sources state this event occurred at the Piper Club in Rome, but others claim it was at the Palazzo dello Sport. The second track is two minute long interview with Roger Waters, translated into Dutch, where he says, “I would say that Rome is an absurd place to organize a pop festival you know. If it would've been me I would never have picked Rome you know. Ah... Anyway you know it's not you know, it's not a sort of pop-pop festival, if you see what I mean you know. If I was organizing a pop festival in England and wanted to make money and draw big crowds you know, I'd have on ah... well all the people have sold alot of records in England this you know is Engelbert Humperdink and old people like that you know, and those are the people who should really be playing in a pop festival. If the cat wants to fill the place, now if he doesn't. If he wants to catered to a minority audience then, well I'm certainly in Rome, this evenings a lot of groups anyway where I don't know about the Italian groups or their association, but anyway the groups in the first half, really a minority, well The Move possibly not, but The Nice and us are certainly a minority appeal you know, and we should be playing in much smaller clubs where there aren't these bloody television lights shining you know. We couldn't use our lightshow at all, it was obvious as soon as we arrived. We decided not to use it because we were gonna have a real hassle within.”

The performance of “Interstellar Overdrive” is unique, starting with drumming and Gilmour making avian clicking noises on the guitar before mutating into a freeform jam. This track alone has appeared on older releases including Stranger Than Fiction (VFM 430318) and Fountains Of Roma (Black Panther BPCD 033), which claims to be the complete show but actually has tracks from shows in 1967. This is followed by an appearance on John Peel’s “Top Gear.” This was recorded on June 25 and first broadcast on radio August 11 and is right before their famous Hyde Park concert on June 29th. This contains four tracks. Two are from the new album, the new track “The Murderotic Woman” aka “Careful With That Axe, Eugene,” and the B-side of the latest single “It Would Be So Nice,” a Roger Waters song “Julia Dream.” The single was not played since the band hated it so much, but the B-side is pleasant and catchy tune, and Peel sounds very enthusiastic for their set. The sound quality is a very good to excellent mono tape probably from the radio. Of all the material in this box set this has been the most frequently released in the past. The Embryo (The Swingin’ Pig TSP-CD-020) has “Let There Be More Light,” “Murderotic Woman” and “Julia “Dream.” Loose Connection (Double DTD 007 ) has “Let There Be More Light” and “Murderotic Woman.” Tracks from this session can also be found on Phenomena (Manic Depression CD 013/14), Cymbaline (Alegra CD 9014), From Underground To Moon (Digital Phono Records Digit 3101), My Uncle Is Sick Because The Highway Is Green (Oil Well) has “Julia Dream,” Rainbows, Clouds And The Moon (Alien Records ALIEN 010) has “Let There Be More Light,” Re-Actor (Big Music BIG 097), Transcendental Medication (Turtle Records TR-223), Ultra Rare Trax Vol. 1 (The Genuine Pig TGP-CD-114), and Ultra Rare Trax Vol. 3 (The Genuine Pig TGP-CD-116).

The following interview with Roger Waters conducted by Brian Matthew was rebroadcast on BBC Radio 1 “Story Of POP” in 1994 and is in excellent stereo quality. The following track “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” comes from a television program “All My Loving.” The recording date is unknown but was first broadcast on November 3 and the Floyd part was rebroadcast on BBC TV “Sounds Of The Sixties” in 1991. This show is a “film about pop music” according to director Tony Palmer, and featured the Beatles, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa. Floyd’s set is filmed in a church and again is in excellent quality, although it is much preferable to have this on DVD to see the color visuals.

The following two tracks are from the second appearance on French television to be included in this Tarantura box set. This is from the “Tous En Forme” television show, recorded live at L’Antenne de Chapiteau du Kremlin-Bicêtre, Paris. The set is part of a festival that also featured Yes and the Moody Blues, and occurs in a circus tent (de chapiteau) in the square and metro station in Parish (Kremlin-Bicêtre). The actual date of filming is unclear. Tarantura list the traditional date of October 31st, which agrees with Povey, but Vernon Fitch claims this show was on September 7th. The show was first broadcast on November 26th. “Let There Be More Light” sounds much more raw and aggressive than the “Top Gear” version from the summer, and “Flaming” lacks Roger Waters’ slide whistle introduction. The sound quality of these two tracks is an excellent stereo, some of the best recordings in this set. The final four tracks come from the second appearance on John Peel’s “Top Gear” in 1968. This was taped on December 2nd to coincide with their latest single, and what would be their last until 1979’s “Another Brick In The Wall Part 2,” “Point Me To The Sky.” John Peel introduces “Baby Blue Shuffle In D Major” as “a real departure, an acoustic guitar duet.” This song is a real rarity and might be an early version of “Grantchester Meadows” from Ummagumma, but at a faster tempo. “The Embryo” is a three and a half minute, acoustic guitar lead version of the well known and controversial stage piece. This is one of Gilmour’s finest creations and even this early version displays some of the song's beauty. “Interstellar Overdrive” lasts for more than eight minutes and is a fantastic version. The sound quality of these four tracks is in mono and is much better than the summer BBC session. Silver releases of this material are scarce but The Embryo (The Swingin’ Pig TSP-CD-020) has “Point Me To The Sky.”

The final disc contains Pink Floyd’s final live appearance of the year, the Flight To Lowlands Paradise II on December 28th at Jaarbeurs-Margriethal, Utrecht, Netherlands. Pink Floyd appeared at this show with The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Eire Apparent, The Pretty Things and The McKebba Medelssohn Main Line. This tape has been circulating for a while in a second-generation copy from the cassette but the master surfaced a couple years ago which contains five minutes of tune ups before the first song “Astronomy Domine.” A fan produced roio called Ode To Syd Barrett exists but this is the first silver release of the tape. Although Tarantura uses the master cassette, they omit the five-minute introduction and the tape begins right when the first song starts. This is the most complete audience recording from this year and is musically complete. The sound quality is poor to fair but improves as the show progresses. Waters’ introductions are faint and the audience sounds indifferent to the band. It is valuable for having such an early version of “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” which sounds much more compact in this environment. “Interstellar Overdrive” has Wright playing fascinating keyboard lines and the set closer “A Saucerful Of Secrets” sounds magnificent. The Transitional Period is packaged in a box with each individual disc in a thick cardboard sleeve with paper insert with track listing and the title stamped on the cover, replicating the old vinyl releases. The label also include mini reproductions of two magazine articles with reviews of The Committee which are interesting although contain no Floyd content. This is limited to one hundred numbered copies and is already almost sold out. This is a fun set to listen to covering an important period in Pink Floyd’s early career and is worth having.

Most Springsteen fans know that Bruce dissolved the E Street Band shortly after the completion of the extensive "Tunnel of Love" tour, and set out writing songs that could be performed by a new band of "young guns," which surfaced on his "Human Touch" and "Lucky Town" albums in 1992. His first post-E Street performances were two acoustic shows in his adopted hometown of L.A. in benefit concerts for the Christic Institute, with supporting acts Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt; these shows attracted extensive fan and critical scrutiny because they were the first indicator of Bruce's "new direction." This is the second of the two nights, matrixing a good audience recording with a so-so soundboard feed; the results here are pretty good. Not something you're likely to listen to a lot, but it's an interesting diversion in his career and a curiosity to hear the debut of his (then-) new material.

A new two-disc set from the Hollow Horn label that will contain the complete performance from the legendary concert at the Town Hall in New York City on 12 April 1963. Several songs have appeared from this concert over the years from several different sources (including some off scratchy acetates) but this features the whole 23 song performance from a perfect fully mixed professional tape source. The sound quality is staggering, and this performance, in my opinion, is one of the most important that has ever emerged in the history of non official releases. The packaging is up to usual high standard for Hollow Horn releases, and this one includes an extra booklet as well as the usual fold-out panel design.

SRV first met Stubb when he was in his late teens. He would regularly play at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q joint in Lubbock. Stories abound about SRV regularly blowing his earnings, stranding himself in Lubbock. Stubb would always empty his cash register and give all that he had to SRV so the kid could get back home to Austin. 

Stubb loved the blues. The next time you feel like some slow and low guitar, put on SRV’s “Tin Pan Alley (AKA Roughest Place In SRV learned to play this song by listening to James Reed’s version on Stubb’s jukebox. 

Hatch says: 
The date for that would be the late 70's. Bands didn’t start playing Stubbs BBQ until after Jesse Taylor was picked up by Stubb when he was hitch hiking one time. I believe that was in 77. 
Then the jams started taking place at Stubbs. So I would place the photo to have been taken in 77 or 78 most likely. Also when Stevie first started coming to Lubbock he lived both in Dallas and the Austin areas. When in the Ely band we once were in between gigs and had no place to stay. All the motels were book the night we came into town. So we just went to Stevie’s house and plugged the bus into his electrical and spent the night in it. 

That was in 78 I’m pretty sure. Here is a link to a picture of Stevie’s house in Oak Cliff (taken in 2011well after SRV was playing in the forever band).

After a few 2013 shows (some more will follow) a 74 one and the AUD recording of the LA show of January 18th 1973, here another vintage one from the start of 1973 San Diego was the first one I uploaded some time ago.This is the show of February 26th and I think it's new here!! Again a Lotus show, so the setlist is almost identical. Superb performance This time there is the infamous drum solo (Kyoto) again.

I again felt the need to run Audition to improve it a bit on the high end. I think the result is good again! A little hiss is to be heard in the silent passages, but the overall
boost in the high end weighs up to that.

For those who aren't aware of the album's history, let me place it into context: In October of 1976, Neil was set to release the three-lp best-of Decade. At the last minute, however, he changed his mind and instead requested his record company, Reprise, to shelve the project for one year. He had plans for a new album, he said, that would be ready for a November release. He even proffered the title: Chrome Dreams. November came and went, of course, and no new Neil product was in sight. Fast forward to March of 1977: acetates of the proposed album are pressed, with the track listing as follows: Side one: a solo acoustic "Pocahontas," "Will to Love," "Star of Bethlehem," "Like a Hurricane," "Too Far Gone" Side two: a solo acoustic "Hold Back the Tears," "Homegrown," "Captain Kennedy," "Stringman," a less frenetic "Sedan Delivery," a solo acoustic "Powderfinger," "Look Out for My Love." Jump ahead to June, when American Stars 'n' Bars is released: five of the songs planned for Chrome Dreams make the cut. The rest? They'd surface in the years to come, some with nary a change in arrangement and others. . . refashioned for the times. The questions surrounding this album, then, are what has kept it firmly entrenched in the Neil pantheon as a "mythical" album. What if Neil had released it in instead of American Stars 'n' Bars? While ASnB is good--let's face it, it doesn't rank in the same league with this lost treasure. And what would have become of Rust Never Sleeps, which shares three tracks? And why, exactly, did Neil shelve this masterpiece? Of course, any answers are pure conjecture--which is half the fun. In short, this is a fine--nay, great--bootleg. Performances are topnotch throughout, especially the acoustic "red men run son" version of "Powderfinger" and ... all of the other songs. 
In late 1976, Neil Young was putting the final touches on his personally-sequenced career retrospective 3LP set, "Decade". Scheduled for release in early November, test pressings were sent to reviewers and covers (for displays) were sent to stores. As November and then December came and went, Neil fans and retailers were left wonderin' what had become of the well- publicized "best of" package. The "Decade" displays came down and Christmas displays went up. Six months later, Neil finally did release a new record, but it would be a single disc titled "American stars 'n bars", rather than the 3LP "Decade". Unlike "Homegrown", very little is known about the fabled "Chrome Dreams" LP (later known as "Ride My Llama"). An article published in the September 9, 1976 Rolling Stone mentions a ten-date tour with Crazy Horse "...scheduled for November, just about when he'll release his next LP, planned as "Chrome Dreams".Johnny Rogan mentions the album in his book as an early version of "American stars 'n bars" that Photos of the labels "proved" that the acetate did in fact exist, and we all assumed that it was now just a matter of time before a bootleg appeared. Sure enough, a year later the bootleg CD turned up, and some months later I actually acquired the acetate itself. It's a bit noisier than the CD, but it sure sounds better. The album starts off with an "alternate" version of "Pocahontas" This solo acoustic version is in fact the same take that appears on the "Rust Never Sleeps" LP (July 1979), but without the overdubs. "Will To Love" ("American stars 'n bars"), "Star Of Bethlehem" ("Decade" - October 1977) and "Like A Hurricane" ("American stars 'n bars") follow.The closing track on side one is an unreleased studio version of "Too Far Gone". Although the lyrics and tempo are very similar to the 1989 "Freedom" take (it even times out within :07 of the released version), this sparse recording comes across hung-over and heart-felt; and it's just plain better. Side two opens with an alternate version of "Hold Back The Tears", which was apparently recorded about the same time as "Too Far Gone". Unlike the version on "American stars 'n bars", this take is considerably slower, and definitely more intense. "Homegrown" follows, and although this is the same take as the "stars 'n bars" version, the mix is noticeably different. The guitars are "pushed way up front" and have a much grittier sound. "Captain Kennedy" ("Hawks & Doves" - October 1980) is next, with the live 3/31/76 Hammersmith Odeon version of "Sringman" next. Often bootlegged but but just another famous unreleased song until 1993's 2. There's been a lot of confusion about the "Chrome Dreams" acetate since this article was originally published in Broken Arrow (February 1993). A bootleg CD was released some months later containing all of the recordings discussed above plus three live Neil Young & The Ducks performances. Very nice booklet with "star 'n bars" inner sleeve-style design & photo. Although a review eluded to the unlisted 8/22/77 Ducks' tracks, there's no mention of them anywhere in the packaging. Here's where the confusion began. Soon after, another bootleg CD called "CHROME DREAMS" turned up, containing most of the same songs (but not the same recordings) plus a few additional recordings (most-notably the previously-unissued studio version of "White Line" and a live version of "Ride My Llama" --which was actually yet another working title for the "American stars 'n bars" album). This CD booklet front cover shows a circa-1978 B&W (& silver) photo of Neil. It's really that simple. However, numerous reviewers have gotten the two CDs mixed up countless times, superimposing live versions where (acetate) studio versions are and vice-versa. The Ducks' tracks aren't even mentioned in some reviews. To further confuse the issue, supposedly a third bootleg CD has also been issued, adding tracks from the "Times Square" acetate as bonus cuts. I have not seen this one, but I read a review of it in Broken Arrow some time ago. I have actually seen, handled and taped the acetate discussed here, so despite what you might have read elsewhere regarding the recording dates &/or versions of the songs from this acetate, the information here is correct.

Tapers Notes:
The Eagles come home to the City which spawned them--Los Angeles, and to the newly renovated "Fabulous Forum," former home of the Lakers and in past years, a world renown echo chamber concert hall.

However, the Forum has been completely reborn as a concert hall, so it has new comfortable seats, acoustic paneling and a state of the art sound system which Glen Frey said was the "best sounding
concert venue in the world, and we've played them all."

Well, Frey may be over-selling the sound, as Los Angeles has the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theater, but this was a great sounding show, although I had a whistler a few seats away, but through
some post recording processing, I've reduced his footprint considerably.

Much of the banter is about Los Angeles and the six years they spent here developing their sound and their favorite haunts. So for the most part, it is probably meaningless to most of you out-of-towners. But there is a dedication to Randy Meisner. Don Felder is not mentioned by the boys, which given the the past lawsuits by the two and Felder's tell-all book, is not a surprise. Felder did contribute to writing "Hotel California," the band most successful recording.

The Eagles have performed shows with this static set list for several years now, and the only other Schoeps pulls were two fine recordings by Ed Tyre and Datfly in a couple Florida and New Jersey shows last year. So I hope you enjoy this one from the Forum. 

This is a long show, almost three hours of music, so you'll get a lot of bang for your buck.

The first ever concert of Carl Palmer's band in Israel. DJ talks during the intro to Ride of the Valkyries. Also there's a very short moment of silence at the end of the track, looks like somebody on the controls pressed mute(?) Carl's introduction to the guitar solo is also damaged by both mic problems in the club and broadcasting issues. During Paul's guitar solo the left channel misteriously goes off and returns at the end. In the middle of Simon's bass solo the DJ shows some typical Israeli chutzpah and breaks in to tell us it's Bohemian Rhapsody. (Seriously man!) Don't worry he breaks in yet again during "Pictures". The hiss is sometimes a bit stronger, but it's noticed mostly during quiet parts. All in all the performance is truly remarkable and the setlist very interesting (in my opinion).

Personal note:
I bought this record some months ago on a record fair. One of the better additions to my Cure bootleg collection. Good quality for bootleg recordings in those years. A nice compilation of the various 'faces' of the early Cure. Not much info available about the actual release of the LP.

Some interesting versions. 'Desperate Journalist' is 'Grinding halt' with improvised lyrics, against a stupid review on their music. Tracks 3 to 8 on side one is a part of the first known recording of an early live show. 
Very good atmosphere and great live versions of old songs. Unmentioned on the cover, track 3 also has 'Foxy Lady' after 'Object'. I have cut these tracks and called them 3A and 3B.

Side 2 is part of one of the 3 shows The Cure did in 1983. After the split up in 1982, they took a break for almost a year. Robert Smith started it up again with Laurence Tolhurst and Phil Tornally and Andy Anderson were added for live performances.

This recording is untouched, no clean-ups, no noise reduction, no cuts in pauzes between songs on the record, I wanted to keep close to the sensation of 'playing a record'.
