Description
Ustad Vilayat Khan was a contemporary and a great rival of Pandit Ravi Shankar and arguably one of the greatest sitar players of all time. He tragically passed away in March of 2004 at the age of 76. He has many recordings on various labels including India Archive Music and Navras. My favorite recording of his is Darbari Kannada recorded back in the 60s (recently re-released on CD) - it set the standard for all sitarists who followed on how to play this raga. His son Shujat Khan tours the USA regularly and is a very gifted sitarist in his own right. FYI, a good place for Indian CDs is www.shrimatis.com, the best selection and prices I have come across. www.khazana.com is another good place.

Concert recordings of his are hard to come by because Khan sahib disliked being recorded. This was a stealth recording from the soundboard done on to reel-to-reel. Mine is low gen cassette copy from the master. This is a very early and rare recording and Khan sahib is in top form.

SBD -> reel to reel -> cassette -> Sound Forge -> CD-R -> EAC -> FLAC 8 w/align on sector boundaries

Edit Notes:
Because Indian music involves a lot of tuning and the pieces are each very long, I edit so that only the music remains in order to allow the music to fit on a CD.
